875 North Michigan Avenue (former John Hancock Center)
Chicago, Illinois, United States · 1969 · High-Rise Architecture
875 North Michigan Avenue, long known as the John Hancock Center, is a 344-metre Chicago skyscraper by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, completed in 1969, combining offices and residences in one tower. Its tapered dark form is crossed by giant exterior X-braces designed with engineer Fazlur Khan, so the steel structure is plainly expressed on the facade.
