Renzo Piano's building for the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, completed in 2008, is topped by a planted living roof whose rolling green mounds rise over the domed exhibits below. Round porthole skylights dot the mounds, and a thin canopy extends past the glass facade to shade the entrance. The result places a landscape on top of the museum itself.
