Glass House
New Canaan, Connecticut, United States · 1949 · Minimalist Architecture
Philip Johnson's own residence in New Canaan, dated 1949, is a single rectangular room enclosed entirely by glass within a thin dark steel frame. A brick cylinder breaks the transparent box, and the grassy estate around it serves as the house's real walls. The property is a National Historic Landmark and is open as a house museum.
